Trump warns of sanctions if Iraq tries to expel U.S. troops

Iraq’s parliament requested the U.S. and other foreign troops to withdraw as a resentment rises against the U.S. killing of a top Iranian general Qassem Soleimani and President Donald Trump multiplied down on menaces to target Iranian cultural sites if Tehran retaliates.
Deepening a crisis that has elevated fears of a major Middle East conflagration, Iran announced it was taking another step back from engagements under a 2015 nuclear deal with six major powers.
Trump has warned that the U.S. would levy harsh sanctions if Iraq expels American troops in retaliation for a U.S. strike in Baghdad that killed a top Iranian official.
