Tunis: A man sets himself on fire and is neutralized by police

A dramatic incident shook the Lafayette district, in the heart of Tunis, on Friday, January 24, 2025.

A man, reportedly suffering from severe psychological disorders, carried out a desperate act by setting himself on fire and then rushing toward a security officer.

Confronted with the direct threat, a second security officer was forced to open fire on the burning individual to protect his colleague, who sustained severe burns. The wounded officer was immediately transported to the hospital, where he is receiving intensive care.

The tragic act impacted not only the security forces but also a bystander near the scene. Authorities confirmed that the civilian, who was injured, is in stable condition following prompt medical attention.

Initial investigations have identified the deceased man. According to official reports, he suffered from psychological disorders, which could explain this extreme gesture.
