The Regional Director of Civil Protection at Kef, Salem Youssfi announced yesterday that forestry and civil protection officers succeeded in controlling a fire that had damaged more than 50 hectares of cereals in one of the region’s wheat crops in Borj El Aifa.
10 fire trucks were made available to forestry and civil protection officers to stop the fire from reaching neighbouring houses.
Losses of more than 100 hectares were bypassed according to the same source.
Salem Youssfi said the lack of maintenance of the harvesting machine was the cause of the blaze.
