One hundred and four traffic accidents have been reported on Tunisian roads from July 1, the date signalling the launch of the Safe Holiday programme, till July 9, according to the National Road Safety Observatory of the Ministry of Interior.
In a statement to the TAP, the observatory’s spokesperson Osama Mabrouk pointed out that the number of people killed in these road accidents stands at 27, while the number of wounded is 177.
He added that traffic accidents are falling opposed to the same period in July 2019, i.e. 68 fewer accidents and the number of injured too (73). The number of fatal accidents has remained stable.
The governorate of Tunis marked the highest number of traffic accidents (18 out of a total of 104 accidents), resulting in the death of 5 people and 22 injured, followed by Gabes with 9 accidents (4 dead and 18 injured), then Monastir with 7 road accidents (6 dead and 8 injured).
The principal reasons of road accidents are speeding (14 accidents: 9 dead and 24 injured), inattention (30 accidents: 3 dead and 40 injured), and priority infringement (14 accidents: 1 dead and 28 injured).
