An informed source told Tunisie Numérique that 290 tons of waste were collected yesterday in Sfax to overcome the environmental crisis in the governorate and to absorb the roaring rage of the inhabitants.
This decision was executed following the meeting of the President of the Republic Kais Saied with prime minister Nejla Bouden and Minister of the Interior Taoufik Charfeddine during which the Head of State directed Charfeddine to intervene immediately to put a conclusion to the critical situation in Sfax.
Thyna and Sidi Mansour waste reception centres were consequently opened. According to the same source, 290 tonnes of waste were carried by the National Waste Management Agency to the El Genna landfill under the same governorate. The waste was afterwards transported to the two treatment centres already mentioned, making almost 300 tonnes of waste less in the city.
This is good news for the associations and the components of civil society who are completely committed to defending their city through an ecological fight.
This decision is additionally an important achievement for the inhabitants of Sfax who are fed up with pestilential and unbearable odours because of the piled up waste. We are slowly beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel.
