Tunisia-5.6 million euros from EU to rehabilitate Carthage museum

The European Union has given  5.6 million euros, or approximately 18 million dinars, to assist in financing the rehabilitation and modernization of the Carthage museum.

According to the Ministry of Tourism, the disclosure was made by the Ambassador of the European Union to Tunisia, Marcus Cornaro on the sidelines of his visit, this Tuesday, December 1, 2020, to the Carthage Museum, in the company of the Ambassador of France in Tunisia, André Parant, the Minister of Tourism, Habib Ammar and the mayor of Carthage, Hayet Bayoudh.

The restoration project of the Carthage Museum anticipates several innovations in its infrastructure and its functioning in addition to the launch of commercial schemes around the museum so that this historic monument becomes a principal cultural and tourist destination.

The implementation of the rehabilitation project for the museum and its surroundings has been trusted to the technical operator Expertise France, in cooperation with the French Ministry of Culture and in collaboration with the Ministry of Cultural Affairs and its institutions.

Yesterday, Marcus Cornaro had already revealed the intention of the EU to support Tunisian tourism and to increase its partnership with Tunisia in the tourism sector, in particular cultural tourism.
