Agricultural business expert Anis Ben Rayana said that according to figures from the National Oil Office (ONH), Tunisia has an area of one million and 960 thousand hectares of olives.
Speaking Express FM, he explained that the said that the average production for the last decade was 204 thousand and that the average olive oil exports amounted to 168 thousand tons. However, this season seems to know a failure and much more timid numbers.
Ben Rayana announced that the statements of officials who ensure that this year has seen a slight drop in production are erroneous and far from reality.
According to him, a decrease of 65% was recorded in the level of olive production in Tunisia compared to last season, he said.
In August, it was announced that Tunisian olive oil exports for this entire season will generate record revenues of more than 2 billion dinars, by exporting 340 thousand tons, against 1.2 billion dinars, during the previous season.
The CEO of the National Oil Office, Chokri Bayoudh, had indicated, in an interview with the TAP agency, that sales of this product reached, at the end of July 2020, around 294 thousand tonnes, for a value 1.7 billion dinars, against exports of 100,000 tons, worth 1.2 billion dinars, for the entire previous campaign.
