Tunisia: A ministerial council to discuss the state of health emergency

A ministerial council chaired by prime minister Hichem Mechichi is being held in Kasbah governmental palace to review the law relating to the establishment of the state of health emergency. It should be remarked that the state of emergency permits Hichem Mechichi the follwoing:

  • To have more prerogatives with respect to the management of the health crisis and the implementation of new restrictive measures to curb the spread of COVID-19
  • Establish targeted lockdown or general one and have a list of people infected with coronavirus as well as suspected cases.
  • In addition, there is the isolation of infected people in their homes, the prohibition on the movement of people and wheels, the shut down of spaces and the ban on gatherings.
  • Implement exceptional economic, financial or social measures to curb the consequences of the decisions that have been announced
  • Impose sanctions in the event of a violation of preventive measures such as the issuance of penalties or custodial sanctions, according to the Penal Code
