Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, President and General Director of the Transport Company Abdel Raouf Al-Saleh stressed the significance of the transport sector as a critical service for citizens. He remarked on the growing demand for public transport amid a notable shortage of equipment.
Al-Saleh elaborated that the Tunisian Transport Company is endeavouring to alter the travel schedules of its different lines to cater to the rising demand, specifically in densely populated areas. Despite these efforts, he admitted that the equipment shortage has led to some disruptions in service on some routes.
He also noted that the company has initiated 3 new lines, such as bus 87 and 433, to connect the capital with certain areas. Further, there has been an extension of services in some areas to enhance the quality of services, particularly during peak times. Al-Saleh underscored that the company is focused on providing an adequate number of buses and metro services in various areas to minimize waiting times for passengers.
