Tunisia-Abdelmadjid Belaid: “rulings issued today are start of road, and next part in martyr’s case is the most important” [Video]

Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, martyr Chokri Belaid’s brother  Abdelmajid Belaid, remarked on the rulings issued against several defendants in the martyr’s assassination case, which varied from the death penalty to detention and not hearing the case. Belaid said that these rulings are the start of the correct path to the recovery of the Tunisian judiciary.

Pointing out that these rulings are the first step and will be followed by other steps, particularly since the judiciary has started to recover, the course of the case will be much better at all levels.

Belaid underlined that the most significant part of the Belaid assassination case is not the rulings issued against the first group, but rather the part connected to the trial of the second group, which will take place in the coming days, and it is the most dangerous group, and among the accused is Damak.

Concerning the statement issued by the Ennahda Movement, which included a comment on the number of rulings issued by the Fifth Criminal Chamber specialized in terrorism cases in the Tunisian Court of First Instance, Belaid noted that the Ennahda Movement desires to direct public opinion to the fact that the Shukri Belaid file will be closed with the issuance of these rulings, but this is not true because the file is still ongoing.

Highlighting that the Ennahda Movement wants reconciliation, but “it will not reconcile except after trial and accountability for their involvement in the blood of martyrs and security personnel” he stressed.
