Tunisia – Abir Moussi faces a ten-year prison sentence!

PDL;eader Abir Moussi’s defence team member Karim Krifa stated: “Moussi will likely face ten years in jail, given that the court characterized the complaint filed against her by the ISIE as a crime.”

Krifa recollected, during a press conference held today Friday at the party’s central headquarters, that the investigating judge indicted Moussi, in this case, on charges associated with insulting others, the dissemination of false news and the attack on public security, while she voiced her opinion on the decisions of the Electoral Commission, during a press conference in her capacity as an opposition party, stressing that no inductive work, inquiry or confrontation has been carried out with the legal representative of the Electoral Commission.

He added: “The Defense Collective will issue the contents of the investigation to uncover the offences which have marred this case, to confirm once again that there are no crimes, but that the purpose is rather to keep Moussi away from the presidential elections”.

Krifa remarked that the defence collective has not yet taken note of the accusation file of violation of electoral silence (presidential elections of 2019), in which the Court of Auditors depended on a report from the ISIE of 2019, because the collective did not receive a copy of this report, stating that the judge’s decision was appealed. The investigation is before the indictment chamber, and the indictment chamber has still not rendered its decision. Despite this, the court issued two preliminary and appeal decisions.

A member of the defence estimated that “the acceleration of the delivery of judgments aims to inflict supplementary sanctions since Moussi was condemned to a fine of 7,000 dinars and they entered this penalty on bulletin number 3.” underscoring that Abir Moussi is a voter and enjoys her right to run for as long as she can, as her name has not been withdrawn from the electoral rolls, he said.

Commenting on the statements of the Independent High Electoral Commission concerning the possible dates of the 2024 presidential elections, defense member Karim Karifa emphasised that the three possible dates for holding the presidential elections announced by the Electoral Commission (in a press release ), which are October 6, 13 or 20, 2024 are dates outside the legal deadlines, given that the elections can take place in two rounds, in addition to calculating the appeal deadlines, recalling that there must be a president elected by general vote, no later than October 23, 2024.

In this context, he confirmed that the party has transmitted correspondence and a warning report to the Electoral Authority about these decisions, underscoring that any decision taken by the Electoral Authority will be appealed. He said: “Anyone who believes that Moussi will be excluded from these elections is wrong. »

Karim Krifa underlined that there is no legal ground which gives the President of the Republic the power to fix the date of the elections, considering that the President of the State only gives the order to invite the voters and that the Electoral Commission was negligent in not publishing the timetable and abandoning its role.
