Tunisia-Africa Day: Tunisia calls for redoubled efforts to capitalize on achievements made at continental level

Today, May 25th, 2024, Tunisia celebrates with the people and countries of the African continent “Africa Day”, which marks the anniversary of the creation of the first African joint action organization, the Organization of African Unity (OAU), on May 25th, 1963, which embodied the spirit of African solidarity and the sense of unity, common destiny and African identity among the leaders and officials of the continent, in accordance with the will of our countries and the aspirations of our peoples.
On this occasion, Tunisia reaffirms its honor in being one of the founding countries of our regional organization and its determination to continue to actively work towards the development of relations of cooperation and solidarity between the countries of our continent, both at the bilateral level and multilateral levels in accordance with the privileged place occupied by the African continent in the priorities of Tunisian diplomacy, reads a press release by the foreign ministry.
 
This year’s Africa Day celebration coincides with the adoption by the African Union of the slogan “Educate an African fit for the 21st Century: Building resilient education systems for increased access to inclusive, lifelong, quality, and relevant learning in Africa”. This is an opportunity to highlight the importance that Tunisia has given to the education sector since the eighth century, through the adoption of several reforms such as free and compulsory education and by establishing the right to education in constitutional law as set out in article 44 of the Constitution of the Tunisian Republic.
Tunisia calls on the people of the continent to redouble their efforts to capitalize on the achievements made at the continental level, such as the implementation of the African Continental Free Trade Agreement. Tunisia also calls for the spirit of cooperation, integration and perseverance to work with a single independent African voice to promote the continent and its interests in accordance with the vision adopted by the AU institutions.
Tunisia also highlights the importance of intensifying consultations, coordination and cooperation between the governments of African countries and relevant international organizations in order to join efforts to address the common challenges facing the continent, such as the fight against terrorism, climate change and irregular migration.
Recalling the efforts of the founding fathers to support national liberation movements and resist tyranny, Tunisia has always emphasized the just Palestinian cause and the right of the Palestinian people to self-determination and the establishment of their state on all occupied territories, the same it defended the independence of all brotherly African countries,adds the same source.
