Tunisia – After Saïed’s visit… Arrest of two Tunisair executives

The Public Prosecutor’s Office authorized, today, Wednesday, April 3, 2024, the Economic and Financial Judicial Unit to arrest two Tunisair executives who currently operate at Monastir airport and who presented falsified documents.

The official spokesperson for the prosecution at the Court of First Instance of Tunis, Mohamed Zitouna, said that the prosecution of the aforementioned district allowed the third central division specialized in the investigation of complex financial crimes of the National Guard to Aouina, to continue inquiries to discover the parties who facilitated these fraudulent operations, as part of this division’s dedication to investigating suspicions of corruption, certain missions and promotions within the national company.

According to Mohamed Zitouna, it seemed that the first employee presented two school certificates issued by two private educational institutions in Kasserine and Sousse, which turned out to be falsified certificates, as confirmed by the Education delegate in Kasserine and Sousse, who confirmed to investigators that the said employee did not study in any specialized education school, whether in Kasserine or Sousse.

As for the second worker prosecuted, research carried out by the security brigade revealed that he currently works for the Tunisair company in the same airport and that he issued a baccalaureate suspected of falsification, given that the year of his assignment corresponds to the year in which he obtained this certificate.

According to Zitouna, investigations should continue to divulge the parties who facilitated these operations.

As a reminder, President Kais Saied made an unannounced visit two days ago to Tunis-Carthage airport, and called for the purge of the Tunisair company of recruitments not meeting legal requirements, announcing the presence of ‘around 137 false certificates of individuals who were integrated into the company.
