All the countries of the world are experiencing an increase in both the number and the proportion of the elderly in the population. By 2030, one in six people worldwide will be 60 years old or over.
In 2050, the population of people aged 60 and over in the world will have doubled to attain 2.1 billion people. The number of people aged 80 and over should, for its part, triple between 2020 and 2050 to reach 426 million.
Tunisia is not spared from this phenomenon, it has accelerated the aging of its population. Mohamed Ali Douagi, CEO of the National Family and Population Office (ONFP) states that the aging rate increases considerably.
“Currently, 10% of Tunisians are aged 60 and over. This category will rise in the coming years, “he said.
And to clarify that this rate will increase to reach 20% of the population in the coming years.
