Tunisia-Al Kamour crisis: Closing the valve cost the country a trifle of 800 billion dinars in losses, says PM Mechichi

Prime minister  Hichem Mechichi answered to the question concerning his opinion and the plan of his cabinet, in relation to the blocking of the valve of Al Kamour that has been going on for months. Speaking to Al Wataniya, Mr Mechichi admitted that blocking the valve cost the country a trifle of 800 billion dinars in losses. A number that could have resolved many problems. But he did not, nevertheless, respond to his team’s aim of continuing to close that valve and whether he would tolerate it for much longer.

He replied that his government has made good progress in its discussions with those he refused to describe as coordination of Al Kamour, but representatives of the people of Tataouine. He added that he plans, above all, to honour the commitments made by previous governments, including the 2017 agreements. He added that a state that wants to be respected must respect itself, and a self-respecting state honours its commitments.
