Tunisia-Ambassadors of Germany, UK, France and Japan affirm their countries’ support to Tunisia-IMF negotiations

The ambassadors of Germany, the United Kingdom, France and Japan to Tunisia affirmed their countries’ support to the ongoing negotiations between Tunisia and the International Monetary Fund (IMF).

These positions, reported Thursday by the Prime Ministry, were asserted during talks held separately by Prime Minister Najla Bouden with Japanese Ambassador Shinsuke Shimzu, German Ambassador Peter Prügel, UK Ambassador Helen Winterton and French Ambassador to Tunisia André Parantce, a few days before the annual meetings of the Bretton Woods institutions (IMF and World Bank).

Shimzu underlined his country’s willingness to support Tunisia in its negotiations with the Fund, considering the serious reforms prepared by the country and the agreement concluded between the government and its social partners.

The German ambassador underscored for his part, the need for Tunisia to continue to act in a consensual framework to implement structural economic reforms.

Spokesperson for the government Nasreddine Nsibi stated to TAP on September 19, that after the signing of the agreement between the government and the UGTT, all procedures have been completed to submit to the IMF a complete file including the major reforms, estimated that the file will be approved in the coming weeks.

Members of the Tunisian government and the governor of the Central Bank of Tunisia are expected to attend the Bretton Woods institutions’ annual meetings in Washington on October 10-16.
