Tunisia-Amer Bahba explains possibility of tsunami occurring in Tunisia [Video]

In a statement to Tunisie Numérique, distinguished professor of geography and weather expert, Amer Bahba, confirmed that there is no connection between the gases emanating from the Etna volcano in Italy, or its activity in general, and the tsunami waves.

He clarified that a tsunami occurs in the sea rather than on land when an earthquake, with a magnitude exceeding 5 degrees and reaching 7 degrees or more. He pointed out that the energy released during an undersea earthquake causes the water to shake and waves to form. These waves then cross and break upon hitting the coast.

He recollected the earthquakes that happened last year in Turkey and Morocco but did not cause a tsunami because they were earthquakes on land and not at sea. He also noted that in Italy, given its location on the plate boundaries between Africa and Europe, Every day, ground tremors are registered that may reach 15, but at extremely weak degrees that do not exceed 3 degrees, in addition to the fact that they are not related to the volcano.

As for the drowning cases that were documented in recent days on several Tunisian beaches, the weather expert denied that the Etna volcano caused them and attributed these incidents to the strong winds that Tunisia encountered in recent days, which caused the formation of sea currents and high waves inside. the sea.
