Tunisia – Ammar receives executive director of African Union development agency

Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration and Tunisians Abroad, Nabil Ammar, welcomed, Monday, at the ministry’s headquarters, with the Executive Director of the African Union Development Agency, Nardos Bakili Thomas, who is making a working visit to Tunisia from March 23 to 27.

According to a press release from the ministry, the meeting largely focused on the activities carried out by the agency, the projects it is executing on the continent, as well as the reality and prospects of existing collaboration between it and Tunisia.

On this occasion, the minister emphasised the significance that Tunisia attaches to supporting effective joint African action, and to the institutions and structures of the African Union, remarking on the important role of the Agency, which represents the arm of development of the Union, to coordinate and implement regional and continental priorities and projects sought at strengthening regional integration, strengthening the capacities of African countries and regional bodies and mobilizing resources to implement programs and development projects. Provide advisory services and technical assistance to Member States.

In this context, he reiterated Tunisia’s concern to back its cooperation with the Agency, to support the Tunisian presence on site, and to profit from the programs and projects it implements, highlighting the necessity to mobilize financial resources, particularly non-traditional ones, in priority areas for Africa to ensure the achievement of the goals of the 2063 Africa Development Agenda. Particularly in light of the international economic crisis which is undermining efforts to develop the continent.

For her part, the Executive Director of the African Union Development Agency examined the most important projects that the agency is implementing on the continent and the initiatives it has launched in various areas, appreciating our country’s support for its efforts and affirming the agency’s willingness to study ways to advance cooperation with Tunisia.
