Tunisia-Amnesty International asks President Kais Saied to uphold human rights

Amnesty International requested on President-elect Kais Saied to reinforce the strength of human rights in the country and primarily put an end to violations in the name of security, including the offensive use of emergency measures.
In a statement released Tuesday, Amnesty requested the new President to promote the transitional justice process by issuing the IVD’s report in the official gazette and urging the incoming government to assume a clear plan to execute the recommendations of Tunisia’s Truth and Dignity Commission.
It recalled, in this vein, that the IVD had referred 173 cases of grave human rights violations to trial.
Although no executions have been carried out in Tunisia since 1991, the NGO raised the fact that courts continue to hand out death sentences, particularly in counter-terrorism cases.
