Tunisia-Angela Merkel to Najla Bouden: You face great challenges

German Chancellor Angela Merkel today, Friday, October 22, 2021, sent her congratulations to new prime minister Najla Bouden. “The fact that you are the first female prime minister is an encouraging sign,” wrote the Chancellor, adding that you, and your administration, face great challenges. Since the 2010 revolution, Tunisia has accomplished important democratic achievements that bind the country to Germany and to Europe. I hope that Tunisia will succeed in consecrating these achievements and respecting rights and freedoms as well as a plurality in society.
“The battle against corruption, the rule of law and structural social and economic reforms are missions that entail patience and perseverance but additionally transparency and dialogue ”, she affirmed.
Angela Merkel likewise expressed the “support of the German government for democratic Tunisia as a strong partner”.
