Tunisia-Another monumental flop of Tunisian diplomacy!

It occurred yesterday in New York. And no one, particularly the official circles of diplomacy; talked about it. And for a good reason, who would desire to talk about and brag about such a scandal.
Indeed, the elections for the choice of six magistrates members of the international criminal court took place in New York, A Great and rewarding elections for the nations represented in this high-ranking international judicial body.

Tunisia had a nominee in these elections… Or, rather, had. Because it appears, the man of rights, Haykel Mahfoudh, had to struggle on his own, with his personal means which are very lacking, to campaign for this kind of post. Result of the race, he was widely defeated by the candidate from Sierra Leone. A candidate who, unlike ours, was capable to benefit from all the support of her country, and its diplomatic as well as financial support.

With all due respect to the level of the friendly country, Sierra Leone, it was tough to see how this country could tackle Tunisia to secular diplomacy? And yet, this is what happened.

The Tunisian candidate, nor the post of the magistrate at the ICC, didn’t stir the interest of the presidency, nor that of the foreign ministry. Yet being a member of the ICC is far away to be a simple matter of personal prestige, since it is a tribunal that deals with all cases of international scope, and which will be called, soon, to review the file of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. . But that did not drive the foreign ministry and the presidency to support him by diplomatic lobbying, as was the case with all the other competitors.

Too bad for Tunisia…
