The considerable number of fires burning in Tunisia’s forests reached 190 until August 9, 2019, Director General of Forests Salem Triki told the TAP Agency, adding that the raging fires ravaged approximately 1,850 hectares.
Triki promptly declared the burned domains diminished from 17,000 hectares in 2017 to around 1,000 hectares in 2018. Nevertheless, this notable figure is growing again this year due to natural or human causes.
Forest areas in Tunisia incorporate more than one million hectares and reach 5 million hectares, sheltering about 10% of the local population.
