The Permanent Representative of Tunisia to the United Nations, Tarek Adab, stated, during the emergency meeting inon Gaza, on Friday, October 27, 2023, that Tunisia decided to abstain, during the vote on the draft resolution, calling for an immediate humanitarian truce to end hostilities in Gaza.
He clarified that the dangerous and unprecedented situation in the Gaza Strip, resulting from the lethal and continuous Israeli attack against the Palestinian people, the measures of closure and deprivation of all means of life for millions of Palestinians, needed a higher ceiling and clearer position.
Tarek Adab consequently declared: “Although the draft resolution calls for easing the entry of humanitarian aid and preventing displacement, it neglected to explicitly and strongly denounce the war crimes and genocide perpetrated by the forces of occupation. It also does not include a requirement to hold the occupier responsible for these crimes and does not clearly reveal the demand for an immediate cessation of the aggression. In addition, this draft places victims and the executioner on the same equal footing.
