Tunisia: Arrest of former industry minister for corruption in Bizerte

The official spokesperson for the Bizerte Court of First Instance, revealed on Thursday, February 8, 2024, that a former minister of Industry has been apprehended in connection with a corruption case at the Menzel Bourguiba steel plant.

This arrest is part of an inquiry initiated in November of the previous year by the same court, following allegations of financial and administrative corruption that reportedly inflicted substantial harm on this public enterprise.

The investigation is not restricted to the former minister; it also encompasses other individuals who may be implicated, seeking to uncover the full scope of the corruption scandal that has adversely affected the local steel industry.
