Tunisia-Arrest of Mehdi Zagrouba: Details from interior ministry

Faker Bouzghaya, spokesperson for the Ministry of the Interior, talked this Thursday on IFM radio to clarify the progress of the Mehdi Zagrouba case.

The official clarified that the public prosecutor only issues search warrants when evidence exists. In addition, he noted the existence of witnesses and surveillance cameras providing further progress in the case.

Bouzghaya added that the Interior Ministry plans to take legal action against any individual disseminating false allegations while condemning defamatory statements harming the activity of security units. Returning to the details of the detention of Mehdi Zagrouba at the Lawyer’s House, Faker Bouzghaya revealed that the security agents were attacked while they were simply exercising their profession.

As for the conditions of Mehdi Zagrouba’s arrest and his detention, the spokesperson disclosed that surveillance camera recordings are proving the opposite of what has recently been circulating.

He denied any possibility of torture, saying all procedures were carried out within the law. In addition, he underlined that a doctor had been offered to intervene.

Note that the president of lawyers, Hatem Mziou, revealed that lawyer Zagrouba was transferred to the hospital due to the decline of his state of health.
