Tunisian police have arrested a young man suspected of robbing personal items from a mosque in the El Zahrouni district, west of Tunis. The detention came after a worshiper filed a complaint concerning the loss of personal belongings, including money, a watch, and a phone, after performing prayers.
Surveillance camera recordings helped investigators identify and locate the suspect in Carthage Gardens. With the prosecutor’s approval, a search operation was conducted, resulting in the arrest of the young man and the retrieval of part of the stolen items, along with other items stolen from various mosques.
The suspect allegedly took advantage of the congregational nature of prayers to carry out the thefts. This incident underscores the security challenges faced by places of worship and emphasizes the importance of implementing effective preventive measures.
