Tunisia-Arrests in importation of spoiled sorghum

Approximately 72 tonnes of sorghum or “droô” inappropriate for consumption were seized at the port of Sousse. According to the spokesperson of the General Directorate of Customs, Haithem Zaned. The quantities were imported by a Tunisian company from India.

The spokesperson for the Sousse 1 court of first instance stated that the owner of the importing company, a quality control manager at the port as well as people who facilitated these import operations have been arrested.

When recording the customs declaration, the supplier presented the customs authorities with test papers without communicating the result. The documents were rejected by the officers.

A few days later the authorities of the customs office received a letter from the agricultural sanitary control urging them to seize the cargo since it does not meet the sanitary requirements.
