In a statement to Tunisie Numérique, the director of public diplomacy and information at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Mohamed Trabelsi revealed that a military plane departed Tunisia yesterday, Monday, February 28, 2022, and landed this morning at Tunis-Carthage airport with 106 Tunisians evacuated from Ukraine on board.
He confirmed that officials from the supervisory ministry oversaw the conduct of operations for the evacuation of Tunisians. According to him, officers coordinated with the Tunisian Embassy in Romania to transport Tunisians stranded at the borders to the capital Bucharest. Trabelsi disclosed that Foreign Minister Othmane Jerandi welcomed the evacuated Tunisians at Tunis-Carthage airport in the attendance of their family members and ministry officials.
He expressed his sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Defense and to all the intervening parties for all the efforts deployed which allowed the authorities to guarantee the arrival of citizens to Tunisian territory. “The authorities have organised lists of Tunisians in Poland and Romania to permit Tunisia to set up the required logistics to evacuate them. Some of them encountered several difficulties; including the hours of waiting and the tens of kilometres they travelled on foot,” he said, confirming that Tunisian diplomats are at the borders to welcome Tunisians evacuated from Ukraine and assist them.
