Tunisian geography expert and climate specialist Amer Bahba reported on Monday, February 10, 2025, that Tunisia will experience a fast-moving atmospheric depression beginning Friday, February 14. This system will bring significant rain, particularly in the northern regions of the country.
Up to 30 mm of Rainfall Expected
According to Amer Bahba, this weather disturbance could bring between 20 and 30 mm of rain to areas such as Aïn Draham, Tabarka, and Sejnane. These rains are anticipated to gradually improve water reserves, especially in the country’s dams.
In addition to this rainy episode, the expert noted the possibility of a second atmospheric depression between February 18 and 24. This new system could have a wider impact, impacting the north, the center, and possibly some areas in the south of the country.
Gradual Improvement in Dam Water Levels
Thanks to recent rainfall, the water storage levels in Tunisian dams have been gradually improving. As of February 9, 2025, dams were at 34.4% capacity, holding a total of 815 million cubic meters of water.
Bahba added that this reserve could increase further with upcoming rains, offering hope for water availability, particularly in preparation for the summer season.
A Call for Prudent Water Management
If these weather trends continue, the rainfall could help mitigate the effects of the drought that has impacted Tunisia in recent years. However, experts remain cautious and emphasize the need for optimal water resource management to prevent a long-term water crisis.
