Former late -President Zine El-Abidine Ben Ali stated in a leaked recording of a telephone conversation with his lawyer, Mounir Ben Salha, that he had done good in Tunisia and had never done wrong to anybody during his 23 years in power.
In the leaked conversation aired by a private television, he said that he had provided no directions to torture citizens, or inmates or to kill politicians and that he did not kill citizens during the years of his reign.
Ben Ali alleged that during this period he supported the execution of the death penalty against a criminal who killed 14 children, known as the butcher of Nabeul, adding that those who blamed him of torture deliberately burned citizens, referring to the events of Beb Souika.
