Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, director of agricultural production at the regional directorate of agriculture of Gafsa Abdessattar Ghoubtane declared that the production of tomatoes during this season has attained 70,000 tons with a harvest of 785 hectares.
Ghoubtane, therefore, unveiled that the farmers of Gafsa Nord and Sidi Yaïch encountered many problems regarding the transfer of the harvest to the factories.
According to him, the tomatoes ripened earlier this year due to climatic circumstances, 20 days ahead of schedule. The official revealed that this has increased the problems facing farmers. “The tomato crop is at the hazard of being damaged if quantities are not transferred to factories during this week,” he said.
