Tunisia-[Audio ] Imed Ben Halima: Government’s negligence is behind excesses of foreign secret services

Lawyer and political activist Imed Ben Halima stated it was unreasonable for political parties to remain under the 2011 decree-law which organize and govern political parties.

In a statement to Tunisie Numérique, Ben Halima affirmed that the failure to draft a law governing political parties is expected in the interest of certain parties who desire for the situation to remain as it is. This is likewise the case for the constitutional court, which has still not seen the light.

The legislative decree overseeing the funding of political parties is very lax with associations. This is the product of the “Muslim brotherhood” because of the overlap between the political and the associative in their party,  he denounced.

Ben Halima also stated that political parties do not present financial reports but there are ones that submit false reports, even the dead are now funding the parties, in a total lack of transparency.

Our speaker also drew attention to the issue of associations, which, according to monitoring reports, have become a significant player in party financing, estimating that the most dangerous issue is the failure of the presidency of the government to execute its oversight role, particularly since the government is made up of parties linked to suspicions of financial irregularities such as the Muslim Brotherhood in a reference to Ennahda, which has 1,100 headquarters in the territory of the Republic.

These irregularities opened the door to suspicious funding from other countries and hence foreign secret services which are rattling around unsanctioned and without any controls, he added.
