Tunisia-[Audio]Hammadi Akkari: Fear of contracting Covid-19 should not prevent blood donation

Speaking to Tunisie Numérique, the Head of the blood collection and awareness service at the National Blood Transfusion Center Hammadi Akkari address the exhaustion of the blood supply.

Akkari that new restrictive measures such as the lockdown, the ban on travel and gatherings have hindered the teams concerned from organizing blood donation campaigns. According to him, this explains the depletion of the stock that was recently registered .

”The reserve is deemed exhausted if the minimum quantity reaches the threshold of 5 days. We have launched an appeal for blood donation to avoid disaster. We are fearful of not being able to save people’s lives, ”he stated.

“The fear of contracting Covid-19 should not prevent blood donations” he added, calling for extensive participation while respecting the health protocol.
