Journalists were attacked yesterday on Habib Bourguiba Avenue while covering a demonstration asking the disclosure of information on political assassinations and the sending of young people to jihad.
Journalist Yosra Chaikhaoui confirmed Tunisie Numérique that upon the arrival of the demonstrators, some reporters were prevented from ascending the stairs of the municipal theatre on the pretext that they did not wear masks. Affirming that the journalists were carrying their press cards, Chikahoui explained that they were attacked by the security forces in the attendance of the coordinator of the Monitoring Unit within the SNJT Khaoula Chabbah.
“A colleague was pushed by the police and fell to the ground,” she explained, calling the practices humiliating, violent and aggressive. “We attempted to cover the event while they were behind the protesters. Slapped and kicked, the protesters were seriously assaulted by the police. It appears to me that the security forces did not want to publicize these practices, which is why they stopped us from working. In another way, they have targeted journalists, ”she revealed, adding that these acts threaten freedom of expression and press and the right to demonstrate peacefully.
