Tunisia-[Audio]:STEG: In the heart of the capital, power blackout and rejection to accept payments

The STEG today moved to an immediate and without prior warning cut of the electricity in a building in Montplaisir (Governorate of Tunis) in which the base of Tunisian and foreign companies are positioned.

One of those touched told Tunisie Numérique that the payment deadline has just passed for a few days, adding that when agents were given direct payment by check, they declined.

Highlighting the damage that these companies experienced because of the power blackout, the citizen evoked that it is Friday and that the STEG offices do not reopen until Monday, not to consider the many protests by STEG agents these days. Nevertheless, several companies additionally work during the weekend.

In the end, the agents accepted the citizens’ checks. Nonetheless, this blackout generated notable material damage to these companies, in a global economic situation where each company is fighting to survive and where the prospects of bankruptcy (and therefore of layoffs) lie in wait.
