As part of the continuous monitoring of today’s weather conditions, on Monday, September 2, 2024, the Civil Protection spokesperson reported on social media that the weather will be favourable for the development of local thunderstorms in the northern and central regions. These storms will be accompanied by heavy rain over a short period, especially in the eastern regions, with expected rainfall amounts ranging between 20 and 40 millimetres, and potentially reaching up to 60 millimeters in areas such as Zaghouan, Nabeul, and Sousse. Hail may also arise in isolated spots.
Additionally, wind speeds are expected to increase during stormy conditions, with gusts temporarily surpassing 90 kilometres per hour. This could lead to rising water levels in many valleys and water accumulation on some streets and roads.
To ensure the safety of citizens and the protection of their property, Civil Protection has issued the following recommendations:
Stay away from valley banks and floodplains: Avoid areas likely to encounter high water flows, especially near valleys and water structures.
Avoid crossing valleys: Refrain from crossing valleys under any circumstances, as this poses a grave risk of accidents.
Move to higher and safer locations: This is particularly critical for those living in low-lying areas or in mobile housing units, such as tents.
Check stormwater drainage channels: Ensure that drainage channels around homes and businesses are clear to prevent water accumulation or seepage.
