Tunisia – Bélaïd affair: Postponement of hearings of accused until February 20

The session planned for this morning, Friday, February 16, 2024, to continue the interrogations in the case of martyr Chokri Belaid was adjourned and delayed to Tuesday, February 20.

The hearing was adjourned, according to the spokesperson for the anti-terrorism unit, to appoint an attorney for one of the accused who declared, this morning, during the hearing, that he no longer wanted to be defended by his lawyer, and requested him to step down. To respect procedures, it was required to wait until the accused had a lawyer, under the law.

It would also appear that the accused, Ezzeddine Abdellaoui and Ahmed Malki, known as “Somali”, declined to appear in court. The same as for the accused Mohamed Aouadi, who was interviewed during the last session and who refused to leave the court jail to appear before the court.
