Tunisia-Blinken and Hood statments :Tunisia summons Chargé d’Affairs of the US Embassy

The U.S Chargé d’Affairs Natasha Franceschi was summoned, following a statement issued by the US Secretary of State concerning the political track in Tunisia and the – unacceptable – statements made by the U.S ambassador nominee to Tunisia before the US Congress, during his presentation of his “work program “, statements that fully contradict the provisions and principles of the Vianna Convention on Diplomatic Relations.

Minister of foreign affairs Othman Jarandi notified the Chargé d’Affairs of Tunisia’s profound astonishment at these statements that do not echo the reality of the situation in Tunisia or the efforts made since July 25, 2021, to restructure and rehabilitate political life on sound and solid foundations to reform the gains of the last decade in a record time and building a real democratic system, based on justice, equality and human rights secured by the new constitution in a way that answers to the aspirations of the Tunisian people.

Mr Jarandi added that the US position does not reflect in any way the bonds of friendship that unite the two nations and the relations of mutual respect between them adding that t is unacceptable interference in the national internal affairs.
