Tunisia – Boughdiri: explosion in laboratory at Khaznadar high school is intentional

Minister of Education, Mohamed Ali Boughdiri, confirmed, today, Wednesday, February 21, 2024, the resumption of courses at Khaznadar High School in Bardo, after their suspension yesterday due to the discharge of toxic gases and cases of choking resulting from a blast in a chemical warehouse at the facility.

The minister admitted the presence of expired chemicals in many institutes, not only at Khaznadar High School, adding that the ministry is operating to transfer them through scientific formulas and methods to preserve the water table.

He said: “When chemicals are packaged and stored in protected and safety-compliant locations, they can’t emit toxic gases, even if they are expired. This means that what occurred yesterday at the school was an intentional act or an electrical short circuit.”

He continued: “I say this because of my speciality in chemistry and the fact that I have been working with these materials for 20 years. »
