Tunisia – Boughdiri: These teachers will never receive their July wages

Minister of Education confirmed this Friday that teachers and professors who have not given their students’ grades before the deadline of July 24 at midnight will never receive their withheld wages.

He clarified that the labour code is clear: There is compensation for work done, and otherwise, there is no paycheck. He added that the labour code goes even further since it allows the employer to fire offending agents. But, he explained, the ministry chose to give the faulty teachers another chance.

Concerning the dismissed school directors, he assured that they declined to validate the grades by the teachers, which means that they cannot in any way be directors, adding that the ministry received 1,200 applications to fill the vacant positions of 168 school principals.
