The president of the Superior Council of the Magistrature (CSM), Youssef Bouzakher asserted that ”We do not reject the reforms which have been suggested though as a Superior Council of the Magistracy, we consider that it is impossible to carry out this sort of reforms, especially during this exceptional framework. ” he said.
In a statement to Tunisie Numérique, Bouzakher restated the Council’s adherence to the principle of judicial independence. Concerning calls to dissolve the CSM, Bouzakher confirmed that this constitutes a suspension of Article 5 of the Constitution, and has a direct impact on the protection of rights and freedoms, since the judiciary is the guarantor of the rights of people.
