Tunisia- Brahmi and Belaid Defense Committee launches new accusations

Following the press release issued by the Judicial Order Council on July 2, 2021, relating to the case of judge Bechir Akremi, intending to delay the pronunciation of the verdict, the defence committee of Chokri Belaid and Mohamed Brahmi decided to explain some points:

  • First: The defence committee is involved with the consequence of the inquiry since it is part of this case and has the right to have access to the inspection report. The committee considers that some parties are trying to cover the truth and refuse public opinion its right of access to information concerning the contents of the Inspectorate General’s report.
  • Second: It accuses the judiciary council of hiding important data about this case.
  • Third: The committee called on the council of the judiciary to directly drop this case and carry the case of Bechir Akremi to the public prosecutor, in accordance with the provisions of article 63 of Organic Law n ° 2016-34 of April 28. 2016, relating to the Superior Council of the Judiciary.
  • Fourth: The committee decided to inform the Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers of the flagrant violation of the law on the part of the Judicial Order Council after reserving the report of the General Inspectorate from the prosecution,then take legal action against him, which will be communicated later.
