Tunisia – Breaking news: New measures decided by the covid committee

The national coronavirus committee has just adjourned its meeting, under the chairmanship of prime minister Hichem Mechichi. The latter who examined the progression of the epidemiological situation at the national level and in the various regions declared that the situation is extremely serious, particularly in connection to the notification of several cases of infections to new strains of the virus, such as the Indian and Nigerian variant. Faced with this situation, the PM decided to inflict the following new measures:
  • Establish a curfew throughout the national territory from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
  • A strict application of the special health protocol for each event.
  • Obligation to present a negative PCR test with a QR Code, dated less than 72 hours for all arrivals in Tunisia.
  • Grant annual leave as much as possible for civil servants and workers in the public and private sectors, to ease overcrowding in the premises and decrease the number of civil servants present in the workplace, as well as their travel.
  • Intensification by all means of the vaccination campaign, to conclude vaccinating people over 60 years old.
  • Intransigence in the application of the law with regard to the offences of wearing a protective mask.
  • Direct closure of any establishment that is in violation of the sanitary protocol concerning its sector of activity.
  • Speed ​​up the establishment of the law on the state of a health emergency, and submit it as soon as possible for consideration by the Council of Ministers to help the government make the decisions necessary to deal with this situation.
