Tunisia-Breaking news:Report: Continued Rise in Civil Servants’ Wages by About 1 Billion Dinars

The finance ministry has just issued today, Thursday, November 18, 2021, a report on the 2021 finance supplementary bill which set up a presentation of the execution of the state budget at the conclusion of last September. The publication of the ministry was made in Arabic only despite the fact that many foreign partners of Tunisia could be interested in the news relating to Tunisia whether in French or in English knowing that the site of the ministry of finance notes that it is trilingual like all Tunisian government sites.

At the end of September 2021, the wages of civil servants amounted to 15,075 million dinars (MD) as opposed to 14,111 MD during the same period of 2020, a raise of 964 MD. The prevailing expenditure of the administration including in this case the consumption of fuels and the support of the car fleet is 959 MD, at the end of September 2021.

The charges for social transfers and subsidies attained 1976 MD. In addition, the report of the Ministry of Finance states a remarkable rise in the tax pressure, despite the worsened situation of companies and in particular of SMEs, due to the fact that tax revenues increased to 22,222 MD at the end of September 2021, i.e. a surge of 2921 MD or 15.1% compared to the same month of the past year. Nevertheless, the tax on oil companies declined by 62 MD or 14.6% due to the non-payment by the Tunisian Petroleum Activities Company (ETAP) of all the tax owed by it to the State. Indirect taxes borne by customers have grown considerably by 2484 MD or 23.6% which largely explains the rampant inflation in the country.
