President of the Butcher’s chamber Ahmed Laamiri, called this Friday, February 10, 2023, the Mufti of the Republic Hichem Ben Mahmoud to cancel Eid Al Adha.
“We have taken this initiative in order to rescue and preserve cattle because Tunisia no longer has cattle and does not produce (…)” he explained.
He also condemned the extreme rise in ovine meat prices due to the shortage of livestock, revealing that Tunisia will have to import sheep from abroad for Eid Adha.
“The prices will be on average 1,300 dinars, and this will negatively impact the meat sector (…) We have sent a correspondence to the Ministry of Commerce, describing the critical situation of red meat in Tunisia (… ) We will soon negotiate to find urgent solutions,” he assured.
