The NIM “National Institute of Meteorology in Tunisia”, merely confirmed the practical impossibility of sighting the moon on June 3th 2019 in Tunisia and all Islamic countries. Thus, Wednesday, June 5th 2019, will mark the official date for Eid Al-Fitr. However, sighting the moon and confirming the day remains a personal responsibility for the Grand Mufti of Tunisia.
In an official press release published on its personal website, the NIM promptly declared that astronomical data properly indicates that the moon shall remain after sunset between 6 to 8 minutes on Monday. He further indicated that the moon and sun conjunction will occur on Monday, June 3rd in accordance with the local time. He added, that the crescent moon can be seen on Tuesday, June 4th. starting at 1 and 21 minutes local time in Tunisia.
