Tunisia – Calls to Mufti to decide on question of purchasing Eid sheep

president of the Tunisian Consumer Orientation Organization, Lotfi Riahi, called on the Fatwa Office to explain to citizens the advisability of purchasing or not Eid sacrifices, given the decline of their purchasing power and the unacceptable growth in the prices of sacrifices.

Al-Riahi stated the Fatwa Office is the only body allowed to speak on this issue, particularly in light of the recent controversy surrounding the purchase of sacrificial animals.

He added: “In my opinion, it is unacceptable for a citizen to resort to debt to buy the sacrificial animal.”

It would in no way be out of place to decide on this question, on the part of the Mufti, given that the purchase of sheep is considered by most consumers as an obligation risk, this year, going beyond comprehension, with the prices that we see, at the moment, and which often surpass two thousand dinars, whatever the UTAP officials who deny and who try to defend the indefensible.

A boycott, or a decision on the part of the Mufti, would put minds back in place, by preserving the consumer thousands of dinars, by penalizing intermediaries who raise prices against all logic and, above all, by preserving the Tunisian livestock undermined by several years of famine and several cross-border traffics.
