Tunisia-Carthage cathedral evacuated, cracks worry authorities

The Agency for Heritage Development and Cultural Promotion declared that the Primatial Cathedral of Saint Louis of Carthage has been evacuated, cracks in its walls having been found. This evacuation arises in accordance with an urgent court order to vacate the Cathedral, which has been utilised by one person illegally for 10 years.

The Agency also stated that a task force will be stationed to discover the condition of this monument, as well as those cracks, which the agency maintains could endanger the safety of visitors.

After the deadlines were finished, the heritage development agency called on the developer who was running the cathedral illegally to leave the site. Nevertheless, he declined to leave amicably which urged the AMVPPC to appeal to justice. Justice later ruled in favour by commanding the promoter to leave the premises for the end of the concession.
