In a statement to Tunisie Numérique today, Thursday, June 20, 2024, economic expert Ridha Chakandali stated that since 2023, the Tunisian government has prioritised the repayment of foreign debts. This policy has enabled progress in repaying debts and has satisfied international financiers.
He added that this policy was accompanied by austerity at the private level, especially in the supply of raw materials and semi-manufactured materials, which would deprive the Tunisian economy of productive needs. On the other hand, the digits and indicators of the tourism sector provide comfort to the Tunisian economy.
Chakandali noted that these numbers for tourism indicators allow the Tunisian state to pay its debts while providing raw materials and avoiding economic contraction.
