Tunisia-Chokri Hammouda: Epidemiological situation of COVID-19 under control

The rise in the number of recoveries from the COVID-19, opposed to the number of daily infections, confirms that the pandemic is under control,” director of the National Authority for Assessment and Accreditation in Healthcare (INEAS) Chokri Hammouda said in a statement to TAP.

The implementation of the targeted lockdown, which started Monday, May 4,  requires compliance with general safety guidelines for the prevention of the virus.

The targeted lockdown does not differ from the general lockdown in terms of security measures, he said, stressing the importance to avoid gatherings and to observe social distancing in order to minimise the risks of infection.

The Ministry of Health will carry out a continuous assessment of the situation during this phase. It will consequently decide whether to gradually lift the lockdown or to impose more restrictions.

The daily tally of new infections recorded in Tunisia has been decreasing for more than two consecutive weeks, reaching the lowest rates since the detection of the first case in early March.
